Lincoln Sports Apparel’s story of integrity in providing top-quality apparel follows in the footsteps of one of the United States’ greatest leaders. Abraham Lincoln was famed for his work in ending slavery, and also for his honest approach to his profession of politics. Athletics played a role in initiating Lincoln’s political career. As a self-educated lawyer in the town of New Salem, Illinois, Lincoln was challenged to a set of athletic contests by an infamous local gang, including running and wrestling. As a result of winning the contests, including defeating the gang leader in a wrestling match, Lincoln became locally renowned for his energy and fairness, and won the gang and town’s deference. After gradually building broad popularity, in 1834 ‘Honest Abe’ was elected to Illinois state legislature with strong support throughout New Salem. The rest of his political trajectory became history.
